Godwin Josiah
Godwin Josiah, also known professionally as Godwin, is a Nigerian filmmaker and director hailing from Kaduna. He is a founding member of The Critics Company, a collective of young filmmakers who gained international recognition for producing sci-fi short films using smartphones and basic equipment. Their debut film, Redemption (2016), was created with a borrowed smartphone, a green screen, and visual effects learned from YouTube tutorials. Despite challenges like power cuts and slow internet, their innovative approach caught the attention of Hollywood figures such as J.J. Abrams and Franklin Leonard, leading to support and equipment donations . Godwin's notable works include Z: The Beginning (2019), a short film set in a post-apocalyptic Nigeria, and The Click (2022), a sci-fi drama exploring themes of cybercrime and personal turmoil. His filmmaking style blends futuristic narratives with social commentary, often addressing issues pertinent to Nigerian society.
